Welcome to the Department of Physics and Engineering!
Our department's goal is to prepare students for professional careers
in physics and engineering.
Our faculty are friendly and supportive –– we really want our students to succeed.
Our small classes enable faculty to develop close working relationships
with students in our labs.
Students frequently stop in to see faculty in their offices.
Students and faculty also interact in social events organized
by the Engineering Physics Club.
Students also have many opportunities to participate in sports, music, and
student government.
We are greatly pleased when our students succeed.
Students pursue fascinating research projects to extend their understanding.
Our modern laboratory equipment is readily accessible to all students.
Some recent projects have involved laser spectroscopy, aerodynamics in a wind tunnel,
impurity diffusion, tensile testing, shock waves, magnetic resonance, chaotic motion,
plasma physics, and music synthesizers.
For students interested in engineering, we have Dual-Degree programs
with West Virginia University and the University of Virginia.
Wesleyan students have been at the top of their class in engineering school,
and have gone on to satisfying careers in engineering.
When students complete the Dual Degree program,
they will have two degrees –– one from West Virginia Wesleyan,
and one from the engineering school.
Many students prefer Wesleyan’s smaller size.
A degree from Wesleyan degree enhances an engineering degree
for career choices throughout life.
Our goal is to prepare students for professional careers in physics and engineering.
The best measure of our department is the success of our students after graduation.
Our graduates commonly go on to careers in engineering, physics, or public-school teaching.
We often invite our graduates back to campus to speak to current students.
Graduates frequently report that their careers are a source of great satisfaction.
If you have the opportunity to visit West Virginia Wesleyan,
be sure to stop by the Department of Physics and Engineering.
We would like for you to meet some of our students and faculty, and to tour our facilities. Feel free to call me or send me an E-mail if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Bert Popson, Ph.D.
