 Requirements for Major in Musical Theatre (B.A.)
51 semester hours including courses in Dance, Music, and Theatre Arts. Students are required to participate in an auditioned performance (music, dance, theatre) ensemble each semester they are in the major, and to be involved in at least two faculty-directed West Virginia Wesleyan College Theatre productions each year they are in the major. Students are required to participate in an academic / professional audition each year they are in the major. A grade of B or better in THRE 468 is required for graduation. Students should select elective courses in consultation with the musical theatre advisor
Dance Requirements (9 hours):
DANC 101, 8 hours of dance technique selected from ballet, modern, and jazz/tap. Students are required to achieve proficiency level III in a primary dance style and a level II in a secondary dance style.
Music Requirements (10 hours):
MUSC 101, 163; 5 semesters of study in voice (at least 5 semester hours). Students should plan to take voice lessons each semester.
Theatre Arts Requirements (32 hours):
THRE 120, 129; THRE 205, 305, 355, THRE 245, 255; THRE 263, 264, 363, 364; one course selected from THRE 309, 310, 316, and DANC 231; THRE 312, 330, 368, and 468.
Requirements for Minor in Musical Theatre
Students must be a Theatre Arts, Music (voice), or Arts Administration major.
21 Semester hours including: THRE 205, 312, 330; 6 hours selected from the following dance technique classes (reaching a level II in one genre): DANC 101, 105, 107, 109, 205, 207, 209, 305, 307, 309; 8 hours of electives selected from: THRE 101 (up to 2 hours maximum), 129, 263, 264, 305, 355, 405; and a contract course designed by a director of musical theatre.
Requirements for Major in Theatre Arts (B.A.)
47 semester hours, including core and individual concentration reuirements. Students must complete major responsibilities in at least four major West Virginia Wesleyan College Theatre productions.
Core Requirements (26 hours):
DANC 101, THRE 120, 129, 210, 258; 309 or 310; 316, 395, 397, and ENGL 350.
Acting/Directing Concentration (21 hours):
THRE 229 or 358; 245 or 255; and 15 hours selected from remaining theatre arts courses except THRE 110.
Design/Technical Concentration (21 hours):
THRE 323, 331, 334, ART 111, and 9 hours selected from remaining theatre arts courses except THRE 110.
Requirements for Minor in Theatre Arts
15 semester hours, including THRE 120 or 210; 129; two courses selected from 309, 310 or 316; and 3 additional hours in theatre arts except THRE 110. Students must complete major responsibilities in at least two major West Virginia Wesleyan College Theatre productions.
 Requirements for Major in Musical Theatre (B.F.A.)
74 semester hours, including courses in Dance, Music, and Theatre Arts. Students are required to participate in an auditioned performance ensemble (music, dance, or theatre) each semester they are in the major and to perform in at least two faculty-directed WVWC Teatre productions each year they are in the major. Students are required to participate in at least two faculty-approvedacademic/professional auditions or festivals each year they are in the major. Students who do not fulfill at least a supporting role in a theatre production by the first semester of the junior year are required to take THRE 239 or higher. A grade of “B-” or better in THRE 468 and a portfolio review/defense with the musical theatre faculty is required for graduation.
Dance Requirements (17 hours):
DANC 101, 105, 107, 109, 10 hours of dance technique electives selected from ballet, modern, and jazz/tap. Students are required to achieve proficiency level III in a primary dance style and a level II in a secondary dance style.
Music Requirements (17 hours):
MUSC 101, 203, 163; and 8 hours of voice. Students are required to achieve a minimum level 8 in vocal training.
Theatre Arts Requirements (40 hours):
THRE 120, 129, 205, 229, 245, 255, 258, 263, 264, 305, 312, 330; 355, 363, 364, 368, 405, 468.
Requirements for Major in Theatre Performance (B.F.A.)
70-72 semester hours, including THRE 120, 125, 129, 210, 229; THRE 205 or 239; THRE 249 or 305; THRE 245, 255, 258, 261, 263, 264, 275, 321, 335, 356, 358, 395, 397; three courses selected from: THRE 309, 310, 312, 316; two courses selected from: THRE 220, 221, 250, 322, 331, 334, 341. Students will be fully accepted into the program following a successful autidion at the end of their first year. Students are required to participate in two faculty-directed productions each school year. Students will be subject to biannual review by the theatre arts faculty.
Requirements for Major in Musical Theatre/Technical Design (B.F.A.)
73-75 hours, including courses in Art and Theatre. Students are required to participate in one faculty-directed WVWC Theatre production each semester. Students are required to execute one design for either the studio or the main stage theatre their junior or senior year.

THRE 120, 129, 210, 221, 250, 258, 322, 323, 331, 334, 341, 358, 395, 397, 491; two courses selected from THRE 309, 310, 316; two performance courses (6 hours) in Theatre or Dance.
Requirements for Dance Minor
21 semester hours, including DANC 101, 225, 231; THRE 330 or 2 hours of theatre practicum approved by the dance advisor; 4 hours of DANC 121, 221, 321; 8 hours of dance technique selected from ballet, jazz/tap, and modern. Students are required to achieve proficiency level III in one dance style. |
