offers a fully accredited, state approved program to prepare future teachers
for the nation and state’s schools. The
West Virginia Department of Education established a pass rate of 100 percent for
all graduates completing state approved teacher preparation programs.

In 1890
West Virginia
Wesleyan
College
was established.

In 1901, the teacher education program was
established at this institution.

The institution places teacher edcation candidates
in field experiences and student teaching in a total of 18 public schools.
Of these public schools 66.66 % qualify for Title I services and have
an additional 18.26 % of students receiving special education services.

Currently, 241 students are enrolled in the
teacher education program.

September 1, 2001

August 31, 2002
, 34 completed the teacher education program.

During the same period, 43 were enrolled in
student teaching.

Prior to student teaching, students complete 105
clock hours of field placements related to their programs of study.

Student teaching requires 13 weeks or 470 clock
hours of actual supervised classroom teaching.

There are currently 7 full time faculty members
and 1 part time faculty who supervise student teaching.

The student teaching/supervising faculty ration is
5.3 student teachers to 1 supervising faculty.
