On April 5, 2008, the West Virginia NASA Board of Directors met at the Greenbank National Radio-Astronomy Observatory to evaluate research proposals from colleges throughout West Virginia. Proposals from the Department of Physics and Engineering met with a great deal of success. We have been awarded a total of $131,000 in NASA funding for the 2008-9 fiscal year.

The agency awarded $40,000 to Dr. Popson for research entitled, "College/Industry Collaboration in Space Flight." Dr. Popson's industry collaborator is Mike Masterman from Extreme Endeavors, a scientific research company in Philippi W.Va.

Dr. Stevens was awarded $30,000 for his research proposal, "Modeling Neutrino Emissions from Supernovae."

Dr. Feng and Dr. Wayment (Chemistry) were awarded $20,000 for a collaboration entitled, "A Nanoporous Silicon Particle Delivery System." NASA also approved $12,000 for research enhancement.

In addition, NASA approved scholarships totalling $11,000 for students. In addition, they approved $4000 apiece for two of our students, Kyle Allard and Robert Powell, to work on research projects at Wesleyan. Jackie Queen will earn $5000 for a summer research project at NASA-Goddard, and Mike Murphy will earn $4000 for a summer research project at Penn State.
