A plasma is created by heating a gas until it glows. This is evidence that electrons are breaking free from the atoms, for example, fire, a neon sign, and the Sun. Ryan Hopkins (2007) studied a nitrogen/argon plasma. He obtained a voltage versus current relation that gave information on the degree of ionization at different temperatures and pressures. Nick Selan (2004) performed a study of dusty argon plasmas at low pressure. Nick built much of the equipment himself in our machine shop. |
