Dr. Jeffrey Schiano visits from Penn State

Dr. Jeffrey Schiano, Professor of Electrical Engineering at Penn State, made a presentation to the Engineering Physics Club. Dr. Schiano's research interest is nuclear quadrupole resonance, which has potential for analyzing pharmaceuticals, detecting explosive materials in airports, and detecting roadside bombs. The latest version of the NQR spectrometer. Dr. Schiano has set up a research collaboration with our department. Five Wesleyan students are connected with Dr. Schiano's research: Devon Miller, Michael Scruggs, Mike Murphy, Jackie Queen, and Tom Tyson (who is pictured with Dr. Schiano).

Four summers ago, Tom Tyson worked with Dr. Schiano. Later, Jackie Queen and Mike Murphy. Tom is now working on a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Penn State and Mike is now working on an M.S. We were glad to see that Tom came back to Wesleyan along with Dr. Schiano.     Dr. Wiest is discussing the NQR with Dr. Schiano after the presentation.
