West Virginia Wesleyan has a long tradition of success in placing its students in medical and health-related professional and graduate schools and in schools of veterinary medicine. We provide excellent preparation because of our focus on laboratory experience and research. Most Wesleyan pre-pharmacy students pursue chemistry as a major and biology as a minor.
Wesleyan biology and chemistry majors are required to complete an internship or conduct research and the majority of students do both. Professional schools generally either require experience in the field or give preference to students with such experience. Pursuing an undergraduate research project enhances not only students’ lab skills, but also their ability to think critically and creatively in science, a plus when applying to professional school. Wesleyan’s broad preparation of a liberal arts curriculum, paired with active participation in campus life and volunteer life, allows students to develop the life skills that will serve them well in a professional career.
