Application for Admission Requirements

The application deadline for the winter residency is October 1.

The application deadline for the summer residency is March 1.

1. Completed Graduate Application Form and Application Fee

2. Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate coursework

3. Two Letters of Recommendation with the Graduate Application

    Recommendation Form from knowledgeable and relevant recommenders

4. Current vita/resume

5. Writing Sample: Each applicant must submit a writing sample in the genre to which they are applying as described below: 15 poems for poets, or 20 pages for fiction and creative non-fiction labeled as such. HINT: Select your best, rather than sending additional pages or poems.

The MFA Graduate Admission Committee will read all applications and make recommendations about admittance to the program to the MFA Director. The MFA Director will make the recommendation for admission to the Graduate Dean who makes the final admission decision. Once accepted, students may begin their residency in either the December/Janaury or July residency period.

The MFA Admission Committee is looking for applicants that have a 3.0 or above for their undergraduate degree; and those who have significant course work in English and writing.  No GRE scores are required.
