Other Sources of Financial Aid
The
West Virginia PROMISE Scholarship Program
A West Virginia resident can receive the West Virginia PROMISE
Scholarship ($3,356 for 2005-2006) for up to four years of study.
To see if you are eligible please visit www.promisescholarships.org.
You must submit the common application (www.wvapply.com)
before March 1, to be eligible for both the PROMISE Scholarship and
the West Virginia State Grant.
PROMISE
Renewal Requirements
West Virginia Wesleyan College will automatically renew the
PROMISE Scholarship if the student has at least an overall 2.75 GPA
at the end of the first twelve-month period on college work attempted.
Thereafter a 3.00 cumulative GPA is required.
A student must also meet the following criteria:
- 30 credit hours over a twelve-month period must be obtained,
beginning with a student's first year on a college campus. A student
may use subsequent summer sessions to complete the 30-hour requirements.
- PROMISE will pay for summer school only if the student has met
eligibility criteria. If a student is not eligible to renew his
or her scholarship at the end of the spring semester, he or she
will not be eligible to use PROMISE funding to pay for summer
classes.
- For each summer session taken, one full semester will be subtracted
from the maximum eight semesters of PROMISE eligibility. Any college
credit (as well as the GPA for those credits) earned prior to
the actual enrollment in college does not affect the student’s
eligibility for renewal for the scholarship. Only those credits
and grades earned while the student is a PROMISE scholar count
for purposes of determining renewal eligibility. Please
remember that students who lose the PROMISE Scholarship will not
be able to regain it later on.
Outside
Scholarship Programs
West
Virginia Wesleyan College adds outside scholarship funds to your
financial aid award. If your total financial aid award exceeds our
Cost of Attendance, we replace funds in this order: loans, work-study,
Wesleyan aid. Please check with your guidance counselor about local
scholarship opportunities. Other scholarship sources include:
Grants
Grant eligibility is determined by information submitted
by you and your parent (s) on the Free Application for Federal Student
Aid. Wesleyan grants are awarded on financial need, merit or some
ability or talent.
- Federal
Pell Grants range from $200 to $4,050 per year based
on your estimated family contribution.
- West
Virginia Higher Education Grant. The grant award
amount for 2005-2006 is $2,600 and is only awarded to WV residents.
You must complete the common application for the West Virginia
Higher Education Grant www.wvapply.com
before March 1 to be eligible for consideration.
- Pennsylvania
Higher Education Grant is only awarded to students
residing in Pennsylvania. Typically, the grant award is $600 per
academic year for students who attend Wesleyan.
Work-Study
All West Virginia
Wesleyan students are eligible for some type of work-study. Federal
Work-Study is based on your financial need and by available funding.
Being awarded Federal Work-Study or College Work-Study does not
guarantee you a position. Students are required to secure their
own employment once on campus and can work up to 10 hours per week.
Your earnings are paid directly to you and are not deducted from
your tuition bill.
