Your Housing Status and Your Financial Aid
Students must apply through the Office of Housing and Residence Life to live off-campus. If approved, the student's financial aid award will be adjusted in the following manner.
Students who entered in the 2003 fall semester or after who are classified as Commuters (living with parents) or as Off-Campus (not with parents)--$1,500 reduction in gift aid per academic year, which may include Wesleyan need-based, merit, athletic, or performing arts scholarships.
Students Who Entered before the 2003 fall semester:
Returning students classified as commuters-need-based aid is reduced by $2,500 per academic year. Merit-based aid such as the Presidential, Academic, Leadership, Performing Arts, Legacy, and Athletics are not affected.
Returning students living off-campus-need-based aid is reduced by $1,000 per academic year. Merit-based aid such as the Presidential, Academic, Leadership, Performing Arts, Legacy, and Athletics are not affected.
The Verification Process
Each year the United States Department of Education selects
approximately one-third of all financial aid applications for a process
called "Verification". If selected, the Financial Aid Office will
send you a verification worksheet requesting documentation such as:
- Federal Income Tax Returns
- Social Security statements
- Statements regarding untaxed income
This is necessary to verify the accuracy of information submitted
on the FAFSA. Students must submit all necessary documents to the
Financial Aid Office within 30 days per our written request. Failure
to do this will result in cancellation of need-based financial aid
until verification is complete. The Financial Aid Office will notify
a student if, as a result of verification, the student's expected
family contribution (EFC) changes and creates a change in the student's
financial aid eligibility.

Special
Circumstances Financial Aid Process
Special Circumstances are changes in financial status occurring
after the FAFSA has been filed. Examples of this include parental
unemployment, death, divorce, or substantial non-reimbursed medical
expenses. In all cases the student should contact the Financial
Aid Office. Financial documentation will be necessary. Click
