West Virginia Wesleyan College has received a significant
gift commitment for the construction of the new Virginia Thomas Law
Center for the Performing Arts from Bank One of Buckhannon.
“We are grateful for Bank One’s generous support toward
this important College and community resource,” remarked President
William R. Haden. A ceremonial groundbreaking for the new building
was held during Homecoming 2004 and construction will begin in the
spring of 2005.
“We
are proud to support the Virginia Thomas Law Center for the Performing
Arts,” said Sharon McNemar, manager of Bank One’s Buckhannon
banking center. “Bank One continues to make a difference in
West Virginia by supporting organizations that do so much to improve
life in our communities.”

Alumna's
Gift Makes New Carpet Possible in Wesley Chapel
Wesley
Chapel recently received a fresh look with the installation of new carpeting.
The carpet was made possible, in part, by a gift from Rev. Victoria
Starnes '78 and her husband John Ewald. Rev. Starnes has served as a
member of Wesleyan’s Board of Trustees since 1997.
“Wesley Chapel not only makes a good first impression, but it
also makes a great lasting impression,” remarked Dean of the Chapel,
Angela Gay Kinkead ’79. “Alumni often tell me of the great
memories the Chapel holds for them and I'm delighted that Vicky and
John have chosen to enhance the Chapel for the current campus community
and those who are to come.
“The Chapel is an outstanding illustration of what church architects
often seek. We see the story
of our faith in the design of the building, the windows, and the colors
used. Each element is a symbolic expression. We want to get the impression
of the gift of creation and the Creator when we're in that space! The
new darker green carpet in the Chapel helps transform the space and
helps us recall that sense of wonder in a pleasing way.”
From religious worship to Founder’s Day celebrations to concerts
and events, Wesley Chapel, built in 1966, continues to be a centerpiece
of the Wesleyan campus and College programs. From the 12 beautiful wooden
statues of the twelve apostles inside the Chapel which were hand carved
by Wolfgang Flor; to the 4,244-pipe Rorhbaugh Memorial organ; to the
183 Shannon Bells which chime on the hour and play twice a day; to the
soaring bell tower and steeple, the Chapel, remains the pride and joy
of the Wesleyan community.
