Seventeen
students found themselves in merry old England from May 4 to May 19. The
students studied culture, history, and contemporary theatre of that country.
They spent the first five days in London, seeing The Producers in the
West End, and The Tempest at the reconstructed Globe Theatre, and visiting
Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, various
museums, a Jack the Ripper tour of the Whitecastle district, and many
other sites of personal interest (shopping!). The group then traveled
by bus to Oxford for three days, with day-trips to Bath (Roman ruins)
and Stonehenge (even older ruins).
Next on
the itinerary was a three-day stay in Stratford-Upon-Avon, hometown
of William Shakespeare. The travelers saw Shakespeare’s birthplace,
and performances of Thomas Moore and Twelfth Night, as well as a day
trip to ancient Warwick Castle. From there it was on to Cambridge for
walks among the many colleges in the area, and a performance of the
famous King’s College Choir, and a moving day trip to the Second
World War Cemetery. The trip ended with one last day in London to see
whatever had been missed there earlier in the tour. |
