The Arts Are Alive at Wesleyan

February brings another exciting array of events, concerts, plays, and performances as part of the West Virginia Wesleyan Arts Alive! Series.

Marguerite Bostonia, a music instructor at Wesleyan, will perform a complete German Baroque organ program, consisting of composers known or studied by JS Bach, such as Buxtehude, Froberger, Pachelbel, and Lubeck. The performance will take place February 7 in Wesley Chapel at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

The Sleeth Gallery will showcase the talents of Wesleyan assistant professor of art, Brent Patterson, from February 17 to March 10. Patterson will display works that are photographic assemblages. The works incorporate visual elements and symbols from the past and present that attempt to test habits of perception and thinking. The Opening reception for the art exhibit will be February 17. Admission is free.

West Virginia Wesleyan’s Department of Theatre Arts will feature benefit productions of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” under the direction of Barbara Burgess-Lefebvre in Atkinson Auditorium. The Vagina Monologues, an emotional and poignant play about women and their bodies, is being performed to increase awareness about violence against women and to raise funds for the Buckhannon Women’s Aid in Crisis Center. There will be three performances, starting on Thursday, February 10 and running until Saturday, February 12. The shows begin at 8 p.m. Admission is $5.

Jenkins Arena will be the home for Fuddy Meers by David Lindsay-Abaire from Wednesday, February 16 to Sunday, February 20. The performance, directed by Barbara Burgess-Lefebvre, is one harrowing and hilarious turn after another on this roller coaster ride through the day of an amnesiac trying to decipher her fractured life. This new comedy traces one woman’s attempt to regain her memory while surrounded by an alarmingly bizarre cast of characters. All performance times are at 8 p.m. with the exception of Sunday’s matinee, which begins at 2 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults. $3 for students and senior citizens, and $2 for anyone with a valid Wesleyan ID.
