Wesleyan Baseball Coach and Softball Coach Win 500th Career Game the Same Week

Within 24 hours of each other, two long-time West Virginia Wesleyan College athletic coaches reached career milestones that well may be a first (and perhaps a last) in the history of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

Baseball coach Randy Tenney won his 500th game on March 29 and approximately 24 hours later, softball coach Steve Warner won his 500th game of his career as well. Update on Sports

The spring athletic schedule is now going full tilt, with all of the teams hitting their mid-season point.

SOFTBALL
The women’s softball team owns a 30-17 record overall after taking a conference doubleheader from Concord. The Lady ‘Cats have posted shutouts in their last four games. They will return to action April 11 when they play host to the University of Charleston for a 3 p.m. doubleheader. Freshman Shannon Moxey was named the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) "Player of the Week" for the week ending March 26 while Wesleyan captured both the WVIAC Player and Pitcher of the Week awards for the week ending March 5. Sarah Baise earned the "Player of the Week" honor while teammate Cory Karcesky received the nod for "Pitcher of the Week."

BASEBALL
The Bobcats are back at the .500 mark after winning five of their last six games. They currently own a 14-14 record overall after sweeping Bluefield State in a home doubleheader. They will travel to Indiana University (PA) on April 11 for a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Junior first baseman Eric Stettnisch was named the WVIAC “Co-Player of the Week” for the week ending March 26. Junior Josh Norman was named WVIAC “Pitcher of the Week” on the heels of a complete game shutout over Mansfield University for the week ending March 5.

TRACK AND FIELD
The Wesleyan track and field team looked good at the Concord Invitational. The women's team finished first, defeating second-place Concord by 24 points while the men took second place, just 4.5 points behind Concord. Both teams shined in a home meet on April 5 as they both captured first place. Senior distance runner Stephanie Hatfield became a provisional national qualifier at the Raleigh Relays track meet on March 25. She took fifth in the 10,000 with a time of 36:50:34. The provisional time requirement is 37:55:00. She is currently ranked second on the NCAA Division II Track and Field Performance List.

TENNIS
The men’s tennis team improved their record to 5-2 after defeating Fairmont State in a conference match-up. They will participate in the WVIAC tournament which begins on April 20 in Charleston.

GOLF
The West Virginia Wesleyan golf team posted back-to-back 301 scores to finish in second place at the Concord Invitational at Pipestem Country Club. All five Bobcats finished in the top 25. The field was made up of 49 golfers from seven WVIAC schools and Bluefield College (VA). Graham Reger finished in a tie for eighth to lead the ‘Cats. Reger shot a 77-72—149. The Bobcats finished in sixth place out of 13 schools at the WVIAC Northern Regional. Reger led the way again finishing in 11th place.
