"A Wesleyan Memory"
April
2004
"I
just viewed the current issue on line (forwarded to me from another
alumnus)--I am the student standing closest to the professor--Mary
Lee Rusmisell. I would guess that this was taken in 1951, but I
would have expected to see Dr. Hyma. I am not sure of the professor’s
name although I associated him with biology." "The
professor in the chemistry lab is Dr. Arthur B. Gould, professor
of chemistry and physical science. I took his course in world geography
about 1952. The girl on the left, I believe is Marjorie Young, class
of 1952. The other girl is hard to recognize from the photo. Dr.
Gould graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan, and received his M.S.
and PhD from Cornell. He began to teach at Wesleyan in 1943 and
was there when I graduated in 1953. " "I
am sure you know Dr. Arthur B. Gould. That picture was taken a little
before I got there...but Dr. Gould was one fine man. His wife, Lillie,
was a precious lady. I don't know the two students. I visited their
farm on Brushy Fork before they died. You probably know that MPL
Corporation bought the property and has their business there. Linda
Wellings in an alumna. You could probably get a lot of information
from Homer Holloway. He taught while I was there. "The
professor looks to me like Dr. Arthur Gould, perhaps a little younger
than when I knew him, class of 1960. I don't recognize the students,
probably placing the photo before 1956. " "Could
the teacher be Dr. Arthur B. Gould? " "The
Professor is Arthur B. Gould, BS, MS, Ph.D. He taught chemistry.
The Picture is in the Quantitative & Qualitative lab in the
old science building next to Fleming Hall." |
