When an alumnus makes a gift to the Annual Wesleyan Fund, they are helping to ensure that West Virginia Wesleyan College will have the necessary resources to meet daily expenses. These unrestricted gifts are necessary because the College can use these donations to address the most pressing current needs of the institution. Unrestricted gifts are also vital when measuring and evaluating alumni participation. The alumni participation rate refers to the relationship between the total number of alumni and those who choose to make financial contributions back to their alma mater each year. This rate serves as a benchmark for measuring the strength of our institution. Foundations consider it when reviewing grant applications and College guides, like U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges, factor in this rate when determining their rankings. | ||
Each year West Virginia Wesleyan sets goals for unrestricted giving and for alumni participation. This year’s objectives include having 3500 alumni make a gift and raising $1 million in unrestricted gift revenue to help support College programs. To accomplish this West Virginia Wesleyan must have your support. “The importance of alumni participation and unrestricted giving cannot be overstated,” states Vice President for External Relations Peggy Cooning. “It takes $20,000 of endowment funds to generate the same yearly income as a $1,000 Annual Wesleyan Fund gift. When alumni support their alma mater with gifts to the Annual Wesleyan Fund they increase the alumni participation rate and help to ensure that future generations will have the same Wesleyan experience that has been a tradition for over 116 years.”
