Recognition of class giving was announced
at the reunion celebrations but formal recognition of the class gift to the
College occurred at the Alumni Banquet. This year the class of '66 was recognized with the highest total class gift and for
the highest percentage of class members giving to the college during their
reunion year. Chairs Ron and Kelly Lockhart accepted the James H. Bowen
’52 participation award for the class. First presented during
Homecoming 2005, this award was named in honor of
Mr. Bowen because of his consecutive financial contributions to the college
prior to his graduation and virtually every year after until his death in
2003. His wife, Clara, continues to give today because of their belief in the
Wesleyan education and experience. This year the percentage of class giving
ranged from 10% to a high of 43%. The class of 1966 achieved a 43%
participation rate.

Alumni Award Winners
The West Virginia Wesleyan Alumni Association was proud to
recognize four Wesleyan graduates and friends of the College during the
annual Homecoming alumni banquet on Saturday night. The Alumni Association
honored Francis
R. Millar ‘71 and Clarence
R. Robbins ’60 with the Alumni Achievement Award; Tamar
“Tammy” Auber '96 with the Young
Alumni Achievement Award, and William O. Goodwin, Hon ’05 with the
Extra Mile Award.

1945 JAYNE CARDER SCHUMAKER,
Indianapolis, IN, would like her classmates to know that
she is 83-years-old and is writing a book about by-gone days.
1948 VELMA SMITH BENNETT,
O’Fallon, IL, and her husband, DONALD W. BENNETT,
celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in August.
1954 FRED L. STANDLEY,
Tallahassee, FL, has been elected
vice president and program chair, and president-elect of the Association for
Retired Faculty at Florida State University, 2006-2007, also elected
president, of the Friends of the University Libraries, 2006-2007. Fred has also been appointed a member of the Board of
Directors, University Musical Associates, and a support group for the College of Music. His wife, Jayne, has
given keynote addresses in the field of music therapy in San
Antonio, TX, Salt
Lake City, UT, Windsor, CA,
and is the recipient of the Robert O. Lawton Distinguished Professor of Music
Award.
1956 DIANE DIETENHOFER
SUMMERHILL, Westminster,
MD, celebrated her 70th
birthday by skydiving from 13,500 feet along with her son, granddaughters and
her sister, CARYL
DIETENHOFER ZACHARY ’62.
1957 MAX P. MULLER, Port Charlotte, FL,
recently was presented the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Medal in
recognition for superior performance and exceptional service while serving as
Honor Guard Captain, Division 8, Seventh Coast Guard
District during the years 2000 through 2006. He also teaches art
workshops in Florida,
and is still active in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, Department of

1961 EDWARD P. SEPULVEDA,
Pahrump, NV, was united in
marriage to Cynthia F. Mahoney in February 2006 in Pahrump.
* WILLIAM D. MILLER, Lake Lure, NC,
has retired from the West Virginia Annual Conference. He and his wife, ELEANOR LINGER MILLER, are happy living in North Carolina and
close to their four children and eight grandchildren. Their son, DOUGLAS W. MILLER ’88 and daughter-in-law, MARY ROWE MILLER ’89, are both clergy in the
Western North Carolina Conference. * JOHN (JACK) H. HODGE, Kennesaw, GA,
and his wife, MARY JO HERNDON HODGE ’62,
are still going strong. Jack works with construction and wood hobbies
and Mary Jo works in a private Jewish school and loves being with the
children.

has been promoted to Executive Director Policy &
Program Design Office of the President for the University of California
system. * L. PAT CHAFFEY BOZEMAN, Houston, TX, (picture
left) in October celebrates 22 years of service with the University of Houston
Libraries, holds the Emily Scott Evans Endowed
Professorship, the first such endowment for Special Collections, where she is
department head. Pat is also an adjunct faculty member at the School of
Library & Information Sciences, University
of North Texas
where she teaches a special collections survey course and serves as a
graduate student mentor. * RITA LAWRENCE MENESES, Jonestown, PA, was appointed as
the Northeast representative to the National Guard Bureau Environmental
Advisory Council (EAC), which represents the interests of the United States
and their territories and advises the NGB Chief of Environmental Programs and
is responsible for developing, maintaining, and implementing environmental
programs; recommends solutions for environmental issues and provides
information to, and obtains information from, the states and territories for
special projects or program implementation. Rita is the Cultural
Resources Manager for the PA Army National Guard, a member of the EAC
Conservation Committee, and Chair of the EAC Cultural Resources Subcommittee.
1968 DAVID L. WATSON,
Homosassa, FL, has retired as a manager from Florida
Power Corporation and is planning to retire from teaching at the end of this
school year.
1969 CAROLE NORTON LEACH,
Cortland, NY, has joined the staff of the Cortland
County, NY Area Agency on Aging as an Aging Services Specialist. Her
areas of expertise will be the Home Delivered Meals Program and the long-term
Health Insurance Program.
1977 TODD R. BRERETON,
Mt. Pleasant, IA,
is spending the fall semester at Wuyi
University in Jiangmen, China,
near Hong Kong. He is in China as part of a faculty exchange program
for Iowa Wesleyan College
teaching several courses in the Department of Foreign Languages. Todd
is an associate professor of history at Iowa
Wesleyan College
in Mt. Pleasant.
1980 JAY B. PARKER, Everett, WA, would like
his classmates know that he and his wife, Darlene, have been in the Seattle area the past
two years. Jay is employed for RBC Travel
