Ways to Give

When making a gift to Wesleyan, you have the flexibility to designate your gift as you please and there are a variety of ways that you can make your gift.

Unrestricted gifts are the most powerful gifts to Wesleyan. These funds provide the foundation for everything that happens at Wesleyan. Unrestricted gifts provides immediate support for current scholarships, academic resources, student life activities, facility renovations, library and research materials, athletic equipment, funding for music and art programs as well as salaries for our dedicated faculty and staff.

Restricted gifts allow you to designate funds to a particular group, team, athletic department or event. Gifts that are designated will have a significant benefit on the students, faculty and staff which you are supporting.

Cash or Check

All checks should be made payable to "West Virginia Wesleyan College." If you are designating your gift to a certain fund, please indicate the designation in the "memo" field of the check. Please send the check to:

Life Income Gifts

You also may make gifts in the form of charitable remainder trusts or charitable gift annuities. These gifts retain an income for you or others and provide substantial tax advantages. They also are significant financial, tax and estate planning tools.

Life Insurance

Gifts of life insurance may be made in one of the following ways:

1. Designating West Virginia Wesleyan College as the owner and beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy.
2. Buying a new policy and designating West Virginia Wesleyan College as the owner and beneficiary.
3. Adding the College as a charitable beneficiary to an existing policy.

Personal Property or Collectibles

A gift-in-kind allows you to give personal property to West Virginia Wesleyan College in the form of real estate, books for the library, antiques, collectibles, or works of art. If the College can use the gift in its educational program, you may deduct the full fair market value. The fair market value is determined by a professional appraisal obtained by the donor.

Stocks, Bonds and Mutual Funds

Stocks, bonds, or mutual funds make excellent gifts to the College. Gifts of appreciated securities have the advantage of capturing the appreciation with no capital gains tax being paid by the donor. You are entitled to a federal income tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities on the date of the gift. You may carry forward any unused deduction for five additional tax years if necessary.

If you would like to make a gift of appreciated securities held in an agency account, you may instruct your broker to electronically transfer the shares to West Virginia Wesleyan College. In order to donate securities held in your possession, you may sign a stock power and have the signature guaranteed. Any official bank can provide this service for you. Then mail the unsigned certificate and the signed stock power to the College in separate envelopes.

Online Giving

Online Giving is safe and secure. Use our secure browser to make your gift. We accept American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa. Gifts can be designated to the Annual Fund, specific scholarships or departments and any other designated fund.

Matching Gifts

Want to double or even triple your gift? Check to see if your employer or your spouse's employer matches gifts. Increase your support for Wesleyan by taking an extra step. Contact the personnel office or check through our online database to determine if your employer is a Matching Gift company.
