Wesleyan softball players Shelby Carlson, Alex Whisner and Kashilia Young each earned Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-Atlantic Region honors on Thursday. Carlson was recognized on the All-Atlantic First Team while Whisner and Young made the All-Atlantic Second Team.
This year’s teams are comprised of 207 student-athletes from 91 institutions spread out over the eight NFCA regions, with a first and second team for each region.
Carlson (pictured top right), started all 57 games for the Lady Bobcats finishing the year with a .341 batting average in 173 total at-bats.
Over the course of the season, the junior from Kennedy, NY scored 46 runs, recorded 39 RBI's and hit ten home runs. Carlson also stole a team high 25 bases on 25 attempts.
Whisner (pictured left), a junior from Sarasota, FL recorded a .337 batting average while starting all 57 games. Whisner finished the season with 26 RBI's and stole 14 bases in 14 total attempts.
Young (pictured bottom right), a junior from Arkansas City, KS led the team with a .351 batting average and 13 home runs. In addition, Young tallied 41 RBI's while starting and appearing in 47 games.
NFCA member coaches in each of the eight regions select the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Region teams and all honorees are now eligible to be selected to one of three All-American teams.
The 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American teams will be announced at the 2010 NCAA Banquet of Champions at the Fulkerson Center on the campus of Missouri Western University in St. Joseph, Mo., on Wednesday night, May 26. The entire list of 2010 All-Americans, and its accompanying release, will be placed on NFCA.org later that evening.
