Reggie Chambers, a 5-9, 170 pound transfer guard from Division I Florida Gulf Coast is the newest member of the Wesleyan men’s basketball recruiting class, as announced by head coach Jeff Price on Friday. Chambers becomes the second member of this year’s class, joining Travis Johnson.
Chambers played two seasons at Florida Gulf Coast averaging 8.6 points in 21.6 minutes as a freshman and 9.0 points in 24.1 minutes as a sophomore. During his freshman season, Chambers finished 12th in the Atlantic Sun Conference with 2.8 assists per game and increased that average to 3.8 in his second year. He was honored as the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week twice during his two-year career.
As a freshman, Chambers was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team. In his collegiate debut against the Kansas Jayhawks, Chambers logged 13 minutes and scored five points. He also poured in 20 points in a victory against DePaul from the Big East Conference. Chambers appeared in 58 games over the course of his time at Florida Gulf Coast.
Among his notable games started included bouts with second ranked national powerhouse Michigan State, DePaul, Miami (FL), and Florida. Chambers also made appearances against the likes of Butler, Kansas, Michigan and Richmond.
Chambers is originally from Miramar, FL and attended high school at Monsignor Pace High School where he led his team to a 22-9 record and a 4A State Championship as a senior. Chambers averaged 8.1 points and 7.2 assists during his senior season and was a Third Team All-Dade County selection by the Miami Herald.
"Reggie is extremely explosive with the ball in his hands and has the ability to make things happen on the court,” head coach Jeff Price said. “People will really enjoy watching him play for two years at Wesleyan.”
Chambers is a communications major and will have two years of eligibility remaining at Wesleyan.
