The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team was stunned by an upset loss to West Liberty in the first-round of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament Thursday morning at the Charleston Catholic Sports Complex.
The fifth-seeded Lady ‘Cats fell to the 12th-seeded Lady Hilltoppers in five sets -- 25-22, 25-18, 12-25, 16-25, 15-9.
The upset marked only the second time in conference history that a No. 12 seed beat a No. 5 seed in the first-round.
During the regular-season, Wesleyan easily dispatched West Liberty in three sets at home on Sept. 26.
The loss ended the season of the Lady ‘Cats leaving them with an 11-15 record.
