With the release of the NCAA qualifiers on Wednesday, Wesleyan senior track stars Ricky Kump (pictured top) and Kevoy Douglas (pictured below) will officially become the first Bobcat track and field athletes to participate in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships since Tyler Blatchley in 2008.
Kump qualified in the decathlon with 6,569 points while Douglas earned a spot in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.26. Both runners will compete in Charlotte, NC on May 27-29. The Division II Championships will be hosted by Johnson C. Smith University.
The decathlon field for the meet was narrowed down to 12 athletes with Kump taking the final spot on the list.
"After several times of being on the provisional list, we are all very excited about Ricky getting this opportunity in his senior season," head Wesleyan track and field coach Jesse Skiles said. "He has worked very hard for this chance."
Douglas, meanwhile, posted his qualifying time in the 200 meter dash this past weekend at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, GA. As a result, Douglas was rewarded the 17th and final spot in the event field.
"I am really proud of Kevoy and the work that he has put in," commented Skiles. "I am happy that him and Ricky were able to make it together as seniors."
