Women's Soccer Ties Gannon on Road 0-0


For the second consecutive game, the Wesleyan women's soccer team took to the road for a tough overtime contest with a PSAC opponent. However, unlike Saturday's game at West Chester (PA) which resulted in a 1-0 overtime loss, the Bobcats came away with 0-0 tie against Gannon on Monday.


Despite being outshot 31-12 overall and 14-8 on goal, Wesleyan hung tough preventing Gannon from finding the back of the net.

Women's Soccer Falls 1-0 in Overtime at West Chester


The Wesleyan women's soccer team fended off West Chester's attack for over 96 minutes on Saturday before giving up an overtime goal in a 1-0 setback.


West Chester outshot the Bobcats 17-7 including 12-3 on goal for the game. West Chester also held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.


Despite the barrage of opportunities, Wesleyan goalkeeper Lauren Hessian and the rest of the defense kept the opposition off the scoreboard.

Women's Soccer Falls to Slippery Rock in Opener 2-0


The Wesleyan women's soccer team opened their 2010 campaign on Thursday afternoon with a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Slippery Rock (PA).


After a first half which featured only one shot on goal combined between the two teams, Slippery Rock got on the board first at the 64:43 mark in the second half.

Women’s Soccer to Kick-off Season with New Coach


The Wesleyan women’s soccer team starts the 2010 fall season with not just ten new freshmen being added to the team, but a new head coach as well. Patrick Holguin, the former men’s and women’s soccer coach at Marietta, will take over the program and try to build on the foundation of success that has been put in place. Holguin coached the men’s soccer team at Marietta for twelve years and the women’s team for ten years, earning over 170 wins.

Women's Soccer Picked to Finish 2nd in WVIAC


Davis & Elkins is the top pick, but WVIAC women's soccer coaches expect a tight race for the league title in 2010. The defending regular season champion Senators nabbed four first place votes to edge West Virginia Wesleyan 90-85 atop the league's annual coaches' poll. Wesleyan, the 2009 conference tournament champion, grabbed three mentions for the number one position.

Wesleyan Names Holguin as Women's Soccer Coach


West Virginia Wesleyan Director of Athletics Ken Tyler recently announced the hiring of Patrick Holguin as the new women’s soccer coach. Holguin comes to Wesleyan after serving as the men’s and women’s head soccer coach at Marietta College.

Francis Leaving Soccer Program After Five Years


Head women's soccer coach Glenn Francis announced that he is leaving the program to accept a position as head women’s soccer coach at Ashland University in Ohio.


Francis spent five years at Wesleyan, turning a program that went 3-15 in his first season into three time defending WVIAC champions with three NCAA tournament appearances.


During his time at Wesleyan, Francis compiled an overall record 55-38-5 record.

The Wesleyan women's soccer team will hold an alumni soccer reunion on the weekend of Friday, April 16-18.


The three day event, which is separate from the all years men's soccer reunion being held the same weekend, will include games and a cook out on Saturday at the Wood Street soccer field.

Women's Soccer Places Six on Daktronics All-Region


The Wesleyan women's soccer team was well represented on the Daktronics Atlantic All-Region team, which was released on Tuesday afternoon.


In voting powered by ATHLETICSITE.COM and conducted among sports information directors at NCAA Division II institutions located in Pennsylvania and West Virginia, the Lady Bobcats placed six players on the All-Region squad.

Women's Soccer Comes up Short Against Cal at NCAA's


The Wesleyan women's soccer team made their third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance on Friday afternoon, taking the California (PA) Lady Vulcans. In a hard fought, highly contested game, it was the Lady Vulcans that came away with a 1-0 victory and a pass to Sunday's second round game against host Kutztown (PA).

The game time for Wesleyan's first round NCAA tournament game with California (PA) has officially been announced. The Lady Bobcats and the Lady Vulcans will square off in Kutztown, PA at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 13.

West Virginia Wesleyan's Meghan Zayas (pictured) and Alderson-Broaddus's Kasie Shoemaker have been awarded top 2009 WVIAC women's soccer player honors as voted upon by league head coaches.
