Volleyball Finishes Weekend at Davis & Elkins Tourney


After opening the season with a victory over West Virginia Tech at the Davis & Elkins tournament on Friday morning, the Wesleyan volleyball team closed out the rest of the weekend with a 1-2 record. The Bobcats lost to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday afternoon before splitting against Ohio Valley and Indiana (PA) on Saturday.

Volleyball Picks up 3-0 Win over West Virginia Tech


The Wesleyan volleyball team started their season this Friday at the Davis and Elkins Tournament. The Bocats won their first match against West Virginia Tech in impressive fashion by a final count of 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, and 25-17).


Outstanding performances in kills were seen by both outside hitters Jess Pattyn (pictured) and Blake Saumell. Pattyn had a game high of eight kills with Saumell close behind with seven.

Volleyball Looks to Ride Experience in 2010 Season


The Wesleyan volleyball team is excited to kick off the 2010 season under head coach Jackie Murphy (pictured). Now with Murphy’s first year as head coach under her belt she is excited to push the team to excel even further. She has made a lot of additions and changes to the team this year. With only ten returning players Murphy has added much needed depth to the team. She has recruited ten freshman and two transfer students who will be joining the Bobcats this fall.

Volleyball Picked 6th in WVIAC Preseason Poll


Wheeling Jesuit is the overwhelming favorite to claim the school's ninth WVIAC volleyball regular season title since 1999. WJU, owners of a 167-7 record in conference play in the past eleven seasons, received 13 of 14 first place votes to easily outdistance second-place Alderson-Broaddus in the league's annual preseason coaches' poll.

Wesleyan Volleyball Adds Seven Signees to 2010 Class


With Casey Pattyn already on board for 2010, head volleyball coach Jackie Murphy announced the addition of seven new members to this year’s recruiting class. The newest additions include Taelor Curry, Demi Glover, Jenna Hrycyk, Camblin Leonard, Paula Renteria, Brook Ware and Korin Wengryn.

Volleyball Inks First Recruit in 2010 Class


With the 2009 season in the rearview mirror, head volleyball coach Jackie Murphy has turned her attention to the future of the program, beginning with the 2010 recruiting class.

Pattyn, Barhorst Named to All-WVIAC Volleyball Team


West Virginia Wesleyan’s Jessica Pattyn (pictured right) and Hayley Barhorst (pictured below) were recently selected to the 2009 All-WVIAC Volleyball team.


Pattyn, a sophomore outside hitter from Moon Township, PA, was named to the second team while Barhorst, a junior setter from Ft. Loramie, OH, was named to the honorable mention squad.


Pattyn recorded a team high 250 kills and 234 digs. She also added 30 blocks and 15 assists.

Volleyball 'Cats Upset by West Liberty in First-Round


The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team was stunned by an upset loss to West Liberty in the first-round of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament Thursday morning at the Charleston Catholic Sports Complex.


The fifth-seeded Lady ‘Cats fell to the 12th-seeded Lady Hilltoppers in five sets -- 25-22, 25-18, 12-25, 16-25, 15-9.

It was the one that got away for head coach Jackie Murphy and her West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcat volleyball team Wednesday night in their regular-season finale against the visiting West Virginia State Yellow Jackets.

Each week, the Wesleyan Sports Information staff will sit down with a different featured athlete for a question and answer session.


This week's featured athlete is junior volleyball player Blake Saumell. Saumell, a native of Weston, FL, is a three year contributor for the Lady Bobcats. On the season, she has appeared in 77 games in 24 matches while tallying 181 kills, eight assists, 13 service aces, 189 digs and eight blocks.

Volleyball Team Downs Ohio Valley 3-0 on Senior Night


The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team ran their winning streak to four games on Senior Night with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-18) victory over the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots Wednesday night in a WVIAC contest at Rockefeller Arena.

The Wesleyan volleyball team traveled south on Saturday for a pair of West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic (WVIAC) matches against Concord and Bluefield.


In the early match at Concord, the Lady Bobcats sprinted out to 2-0 set lead before prevailing 3-1 (25-22, 25-14, 21-25, 25-16).

Volleyball Lady Bobcats Upset Charleston, 3-1


The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats ended their three-game losing streak in style with an impressive 3-1 victory over the University of Charleston Golden Eagles Friday night in Rockefeller Center during Wesleyan’s Homecoming weekend.

Volleyball to Hold "Dig Pink" Match Against Charleston


If a Homecoming match against conference rival Charleston was not motivation enough, the Wesleyan volleyball team will also be holding their annual "Dig Pink" match on Friday night.


The "Dig Pink" match against Charleston is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in Rockefeller Arena and will dedicated to breast cancer awareness.
