The West
Virginia Wesleyan College Jazz Ensemble will conclude their Spring 2002
Tour with a public evening concert on Friday, March 15, at 7:30 p.m. in
Wesley Chapel. During the two-week tour, the ensemble performed at various
locations throughout West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia.
Formed in 1969 by Dr. David Milburn, the Jazz Ensemble consists of full
saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and horn sections, as well as a rhythm section
that includes piano, drum set, guitar, and bass.
The ensemble, which is still conducted by Dr. Milburn, travels widely
throughout the eastern United States performing approximately 15-20 concerts
and clinics annually in public schools and collegiate jazz festivals.
The group also travels abroad every four years giving each member a chance
to experience the overseas tour at least once. They have performed in
Romania, Poland, the USSR, Hungary, Austria, the Ukraine, the Czech Republic,
and Slovakia. In 2001, they completed their ninth European concert tour
since 1973 performing in concert in Finland, Estonia, and Russia.
