Wesleyan College will make $500,000 in enhancements this summer to residence
halls over and above normal annual maintenance. In developing the plan,
the College examined trends in housing, reviewed its long-term plan, interviewed
campus constituents, and conducted a student residence life survey. Work
is scheduled for completion prior to the opening of the fall 2002 semester. "Students place great value in the quality of their living space," said President William R. Haden. "Through the recent re-financing of our debt, we had the opportunity to invest this sum in the capital needs of our campus. Improvements to residence halls have been on the top of our capital priority list. The survey we conducted in November allowed us to address the needs our students felt were the most important." The improvements scheduled for this summer will enhance the residence halls in many ways. Two and three room suites will be available for residents in Jenkins and Holloway Halls. Super-single rooms will be offered in Fleming Hall. Recreation and lounge area will be established in Benedum and Doney Halls. Study areas will be added to Fleming, McCuskey, and Doney Halls. Also, picnic areas will be established around the exteriors of the residence halls. In addition to these improvements, many of the buildings will receive new carpeting, paint, lighting, and furniture. |
