The West
Virginia Wesleyan College Campus Activities Board will present IMANI,
Friday, February 22, at 9:00 p.m. in the Social Hall. Hailing from Philadelphia,
the all-female group combines traditional rhythm and blues with a gospel
influence, creating riveting up-tempo tunes highlighting their jazz-like
versatility.
Beyond showcasing their vocal abilities, IMANI displays graceful choreography,
humor, and interactive energy. The group has been the opening act for
many marquee names including Boyz II Men, TLC, Tony Rich, and Regina Bell.
The Philadelphia 76ers organization has issued a standing invitation for
IMANI to perform before games.
IMANI has performed for an array of events including the United Negro
College Fund Sports Ball, the African American Expo, and the American
Society of Travel Agents Convention. The group is currently touring college
and university campuses throughout the United States and was named a finalist
for the 1998 CEA Contemporary Music Act of the Year.
