Wesleyan Announces Dr. Martin Luther King Day Service
released: 01/14/02

Each year on the third Monday of January, schools, federal offices, post offices, and banks across America close to commemorate the life and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. In 1994, President Clinton proclaimed that this day be observed as a national holiday, and he called on citizens of the United States "to observe the occasion with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities."

This day provides the nation with an opportunity to remember Dr. King's fight for freedom, equality, and dignity of all races and peoples and to contemplate his message of change through nonviolence and his struggle against injustice.

Wesley Chapel will offer a "Service of Worship: Remembering and Celebrating the Life, Teachings, and Ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr." on Monday, January 21 at 11:00 a.m. The service is open to the community and all faculty, staff, and students are urged to attend.
