West Virginia
Wesleyan College achieved a pass rate of 100 percent for its 49 program
completers in teacher education from September 1, 2000 through August
31, 2001. A program completer is a graduate of the institution who has
completed a West Virginia Board of Education approved professional preparation
program and qualifies for a Provisional Professional Certificate in West
Virginia. This institution verifies that the completer has met all the
institutional degree requirements and has a minimum of 2.5 overall academic
average on a 4.0 grading scale.
Although there were 49 program completers, Federal Title II guidelines
require that West Virginia Wesleyan College report content specializations
with ten or more completers in any of the currently approved teacher education
programs at this institution. Program completers who complete more that
one content specialization are treated as two program completers, thus
explaining why program completers total more than the number of completers.
There were program completers in the following content specializations:
Art K-12, Biology 9-12, Business Education 9-12, English 5-12, General
Science 5-12, Health, K-12, Mathematics 5-12, Music K-12, Physical Education K-12, Physics 9-12,
Social Studies 5-9, Social Studies 5-12, and Specific Learning Disabilities
K-12.
Wesleyan places teacher education candidates in field experiences and
student teaching in a total of 17 public schools. Of these public schools,
58 percent qualify for Title I services and have an additional 16 percent
of students receiving special education services. Prior to student teaching,
students complete 95 clock hours of field placements related to their
programs of study.
Based on this data, West Virginia Wesleyan College has a First Quartile
ranking for its teacher preparation programs as defined in the West Virginia
Title II Plan submitted to the United States Office of Education and approved
by the West Virginia Board of Education. In doing this, the College has
met the federal requirements for Title II reporting.
