On April 18, education students at Wesleyan hosted their first grade reading buddies-from Mrs. Beverly Reger's class at Academy Primary and Mrs. Rebecca Wills' class at Central Elementary School-for a picnic and games at the college. Students enjoyed McDonald's happy meals, a campus tour, and games to celebrate their partnership.
 The Wesleyan education majors in Mrs. Debbie Bush's diagnostic reading class have worked on reading skills with the first grade students since January. Throughout the semester, the Wesleyan mentors worked weekly with the first graders to develop and improve their reading skills. They administered a number of assessments and developed strategies appropriate for meeting the specific needs of the students, as indicated by the evaluations.
Both first graders and college students have enjoyed their time together. Wesleyan students have indicated that they've seen a great deal of progress in their reading buddies during this semester. |
