Eight panels
of the AIDS Quilt will be on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College
from March 20-25. The quilt will be on display from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00
p.m. in Rockefeller Physical Education Center upper side gym, except for
Thursday, March 21, when the quilt will be available for viewing from
9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
On March 21, approximately 360 Buckhannon-Upshur High School freshmen
will visit the campus to take part in workshops ranging from games to
simulations and to have a chance to see the quilt firsthand. Leading the
way will be Heather McRae and Cassandra Bradshaw, along with approximately
12 peer educators from BUHS, Alpha Gamma Delta, and Theta Xi, along with
representatives from Kappa Phi and Alpha Phi Omega.
The week will begin with a Chapel service on Tuesday, March 19, at 11:00
a.m. with guest speaker Rev. Dr. Nancy A. Carter, an alumna of West Virginia
Wesleyan College. Rev. Dr. Carter first became involved in AIDS-related
ministry when a church friend of hers was diagnosed with AIDS in 1983.
She currently does Internet-related work for the United Methodist Committee
on Relief (UMCOR) and Health and Welfare Ministries, which are units of
the General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM) of the United Methodist
Church. At noon, following the service, there will be an opportunity to
speak with Rev. Dr. Carter in the French See Dinning Center.
