| Wesleyan Student Wins Preliminary Pageant Title released: 05/07/02 |

| Erica Lynne Scanlon, a junior music education major from Pitman, N.J., was recently named Miss Ramapo Valley, a preliminary to the Miss New Jersey pageant. Scanlon won the crown, title, and talent award. The Miss Ramapo Valley pageant is run in the same fashion as the Miss America Pageant, which is the next level after Miss New Jersey. Talent counts for 40 percent, interview for 30 percent, and evening wear and swimwear are 15 percent each. "Every contestant has a personal platform," Scanlon said. "Mine is Autism Awareness and Advocacy." This June, Erica will be competing in the Miss New Jersey Pageant, a week-long event, in Ocean City, New Jersey. |
