| West Virginia Wesleyan College Takes Part in V-Day 2002 Campaign released: 01/30/02 |
| "The Vagina Monologues" will be performed on February 14 and 16 at 8:00 p.m. at Atkinson Auditorium on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College. Created by Eve Ensler six years ago, "The Vagina Monologues" has expanded from a one-woman, off-Broadway show to a worldwide movement to stop violence against women and girls and to proclaim Valentine's Day as the day to celebrate women and demand the end of abuse. The first V-Day was held in 1998 with a performance of the play by some of our country's biggest stars-Glenn Close, Whoopi Goldberg, Susan Sarandon, Winona Ryder, Lily Tomlin, and Calista Flockhart-who sought to raise awareness of and money for a situation that has become an epidemic. The V-Day College Campaign has been celebrated on more than 450 college campuses worldwide. The V-Day 2002 College Campaign is targeting even more schools, both in the United States and abroad. West Virginia Wesleyan, Hamilton, and Marist Colleges, and Drew, Rice, and Mount Allison (Canada) Universities are just a few of this year's participants. Hailed by The New York Times as "funny" and "poignant" and by the Daily News as "intelligent" and "courageous," the Obie Award-winning "Monologues" dives into the mystery, humor, pain, powers, wisdom, outrage, and excitement buried in women's experiences. All of the proceeds from the Wesleyan performance will go to the Buckhannon Women's Aid in Crisis Center. Tickets are $5, and to order you can call 304-473-8037 or visit our web site www.wvwc.edu/theatre. Contributions can be sent to V-Day, c/o Barbara Burgess Lefebvre MSC, 59 College Ave., Buckhannon, WV 26201. Statistics:
