The West Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association (WVATA) currently has a bill that has been introduced in the House of Delegates and has been referred to the Committee on Government Organization.

The Athletic Training Licensure Bill – Senate Bill 591 and House Bill 3103 – was created with the mission to improve the health care during athletic events for the youth of West Virginia. Licensure of athletic trainers in the state of West Virginia will ensure the public with standards of compliance that has been met for their protection.

Four senior West Virginia Wesleyan College Athletic Training Program students, under Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Athletic Training Director Jean Fruh will be making the trip to Charleston Monday, March 3, to support the bill.

All four Wesleyan students are residents of West Virginia.

Members of WVATA will be manning booths all day at the Capital, with Wesleyan hosting a booth from noon-2 p.m. on the second floor of the Capital.

“We are going to Charleston to teach people about who we are and what we do as athletic trainers,” remarked Fruh. “We will be taking blood pressure measurements, giving out free Dr. Scholl’s Air Pillow Gel Inserts, and just generally greeting legislators and other interested individuals.”

They will also have a display and promotional video from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA).
