Wesleyan Hosts Renowned Brubeck Brothers Quartet Concert
released: 02/12/03

West Virginia Wesleyan is pleased to host the Brubeck Brothers Quartet Concert featuring Chris and Dan Brubeck, sons of famous jazz pianist Dave Brubeck, on Tuesday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m.

The performance is part of the Spring 2003 Arts Alive! series and will be held at the Wesley Chapel.

Also featured in the quartet are longtime friends of the Brubeck brothers -- Mike DeMicco and Pete Levin.

The quartet’s performances fuse elements of rock, classical, blues, funk, and reggae, while providing a glimpse into the future of jazz while honoring the jazz tradition.

Critics have called Dan “one of the most talented and creative drummers and a master of complex rhythms.”

Chris is a multi-talented instrumentalist who has earned rave reviews on electric bass and bass trombone.

Mike, guitarist and composer, is described as “an exceptionally fluid and harmonically sophisticated improviser,” while the final member Pete, operates on the “cutting edge with the most innovative spontaneous and interactive purveyors of improvised music.”

The Quartet has garnered rave reviews wherever they perform, including outstanding reviews from such papers as the New York Post, the Washington Post, and the Boston Globe.

The quartet released their first CD, Second Nature, in January of 2000, after two years of touring.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens, and free to Wesleyan students with a valid ID.

The program is presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia
Division of Culture and History, and the National Endowment for the Arts,
with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
