West
Virginia Wesleyan is pleased to announce that President Bush has signed
the appropriations bill that included a $2.7 million grant for new construction
at the College.
The grant was retained through the efforts of Senator Robert C. Byrd in
honor of his junior high school teacher, the late David E. Reemsnyder.
Mr. Reemsnyder `30 was a long-time coach and teacher at Wesleyan.
The allocation will be used toward renovations and expansion to the school’s
Christopher Hall of Science.
"We are deeply appreciative of Senator Byrd's efforts to provide
this Federal grant support for West Virginia Wesleyan College,”
remarked West Virginia Wesleyan College President William R. Haden. “All
of us at the College are extremely pleased to receive this recognition
of Wesleyan's quality, and we recognize that it represents an important
step forward in our efforts to strengthen further our science programs.
"We look forward to developing our new and expanded science facilities
in the coming years. In doing so, we will honor the late David Reemsnyder,
our former colleague at Wesleyan and Senator Byrd's teacher."
Added Peggy Cooning, Vice President for Advancement, “We are so
very grateful to Senator Byrd. He has opened the door for us to ask others
who believe in our College and in our science programs to build on this
grant with their own gifts and help us complete the renovation and addition
to our science hall.”
