West
Virginia Wesleyan College’s senior running back Duriel Cobb has
been selected to play in the Division II Whataburger Cactus Bowl. The
game will be played at 6:30 PM on January 10th in Kingsville, Texas’
Javelina Stadium. The Cactus Bowl features Division II’s top seniors
and 2003 marks the third year that the game has been played in Kingsville.
Since its inception in 1994, more than 100 participants in the Division
II all-star game have signed with NFL teams, including 22 from last
year’s event. Numerous NFL scouts are again expected to be in
attendance. Cobb, a graduate of Gwynn Park High School, helped lead the Bobcats to the 2002 West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) title. He set Bobcat records in the categories of career rushing (3,180 yards); single season rushing (1,440 yards); carries in a single season (265); and career all-purpose yards (4,071). The Clinton, MD native was also an integral part of breaking several team records in 2002, including total offense in one season (4,588 yards), yards rushing in one season (2,431) and first downs in one season (235). Cobb was named as a first team all-conference player, and was chosen as the WVIAC Offensive Player of the Year. Cobb joins wide receiver Ryshaune Ward from Concord College as the only 2 members of the WVIAC to participate in the game. The Cactus Bowl will once again be broadcast by Fox Sports Southwest. Viewers with satellite systems can tune in to Direct TV channel 643 or Dish Network channel 416. Coverage begins at 6:00 p.m. local time.
