College Prepares for 2003 Commencement Weekend released: 04/17/03 |

With the 2003 Commencement Weekend just around the corner, West Virginia Wesleyan College will be abuzz with activities for both the campus and the Buckhannon community. On Thursday, April 24, the Senior Class will hold its meeting in Wesley Chapel at 4 p.m. and the Senior Class Party will be held Thursday, May 1, at the Stonewall Resort in Lewis County at 5:30 p.m. On Friday, May 2, the Class of 1953 will converge on Buckhannon for its 50-year class reunion. There will be an opening reception for the Class of 1953 in the French A. See Dining Center at 5 p.m. followed by a dinner at 6 p.m. That night, there will be an “Evening of Music with the Concert Chorale” in Wesley Chapel at 8 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. There will be a full slate of activities on campus Saturday, May 3. Morning activities will include an Open House at the Erickson Alumni Center located on 55 Meade Street from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. The Class of 1953 will meet for a continental breakfast in the French A. See Dining Center at 8 a.m. Emeritus Club Registration will be held in the French A. See Dining Center at 10:30 a.m. with the Emeritus Club Luncheon beginning at 11:30 a.m. In the afternoon, there will be a picnic lunch for graduates and guests at the Campus Center Plaza from 11:45 a.m. – 1 p.m. (All meal tickets must be purchased from the Alumni Relations Office by April 25). The Senior Nursing Convocation is slated for the Wesley Chapel at 1 p.m. with the reception to follow in Kresge/Martin Religious Center at 2:30 p.m. There will also be a Senior Art Exhibit and Reception in Sleeth Gallery/McCuskey Hall from 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m., which is open to the public. At 1:30 p.m., there will be an Emeritus Club Meeting in the French A. See Dining Hall and there will be an Education Department Reception in the Social Hall/Benedum Campus Community Center. The afternoon will conclude with the President’s Reception at the home of President William R. Haden from 3 – 5 p.m. The evening will begin with a Catholic Mass by Fr. James McCafferty in the Meditation Chapel/Wesley Chapel at 5 p.m. The Commencement Banquet and the 50th Anniversary Dinner for the Class of 1953 will be held in the French A. See Dining Center at 5:30 p.m. The evening will be capped off with the Baccalaureate service in Wesley Chapel at 8 p.m. featuring guest speaker Dr. Jerome King Del Pino. On Sunday, the Commencement Line-up will take place for graduates in front of the Administration Building at 9 a.m. The Commencement Ceremony will be held in the Rockefeller Physical Education Building at 10 a.m. featuring guest speaker William S. Norman, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Travel Industry Association of America. A ticket is required to view the Commencement Ceremony. There will be a Post-Commencement Buffet in the French A.
