| Jack DuVall,
Director of International Center on Nonviolent Conflict in Washington, D.
C., will be a guest speaker and conduct an open forum discussion at West
Virginia Wesleyan College Wednesday, April 16 in Wesley Chapel at 7 p.m.
Duvall will discuss how popular movements used nonviolent weapons to overcome oppression, obstruct military forces, and secure rights and freedom during the past century. At a time when violent force is still too often chosen as the means of conflict, Duvall attempts to show how people can achieve freedom and justice without using violence. The forum will also consist of a viewing of the video “Bringing Down a Dictator” narrated by Martin Sheen. DuVall, a veteran writer and television executive, is the co-author of the book “A Force More Powerful: A Century of Nonviolent Conflict.” His writing includes speeches for presidential candidates in four national campaigns, and poems and articles that have appeared in literary journals and major newspapers.
