The West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church will hold its 158th Annual Session (35th since merger) on the West Virginia Wesleyan campus this week (June 10-15). From Tuesday through Sunday afternoon, Wesleyan will be hosting over 2,500 voting members and guests. Nearly 650 folks are staying on campus while the rest will be commuting from area motels and their homes. And what is "Annual Conference?" It is the basic organizational body in the United Methodist Church. It includes all UM churches within a geographically defined area. Annual conference membership consists of equal numbers of lay and clergy members and at least one layperson from each pastoral charge is to be a member. Annual Conference
members are responsible for the program and administration of the work
of the annual conference and its local churches. This year, members will
also be electing delegates to the 2004 General Conference and the 2004
Jurisdictional Conference. |
