LaShawna Moss Receives Scholarship released: 03/15/03 |
LaShawna Moss, a West Virginia Wesleyan freshman, was awarded a Circle of Vision Scholarship at the West Virginia Independent Colleges & Universities’ (WVICU) annual meeting and banquet at The Greenbrier Feb. 23-24. Moss, a Charleston native, is majoring in management. The Circle of Vision Scholarship Program was created in 1997 and was originally know as the Mountain State Scholarship Program. Since its inception, nearly $1.5 million has been raised for named scholarships, allowing nearly 1,200 West Virginians to attend private colleges in the state. WVICU is a consortium of the ten private colleges and universities in West Virginia. Becoming a donor of the Circle of Vision requires a minimum of a $10,000 contribution that is then divided equally among the ten member colleges and universities. Scholarships are awarded in the name of the donor in at least $1,000 increments to deserving West Virginians who demonstrate financial need an academic promise. Donors are advised of the student’s name, hometown and academic major following the selection process and receive special recognition for their efforts. The program has been highly successful and received national recognition form the Foundation for Independent Higher Education. WVICU has raised over $28 million since its inception
in 1951. |
