Wesleyan Student Wins Organ Competition
released: 03/20/03

Jessica Scott, a junior at West Virginia Wesleyan College, won the American Guild of Organists (AGO) Young Organ Competition March 15 in Harrisburg, PA.

Scott is a music major and a native of Clarksburg, WV.

The competition, held in odd-numbered years, is sponsored and administered by the nine regions of the AGO. The first round of the competition begins at the chapter level. Scott participated in the Mid-Atlantic Region III Harrisburg chapter.

She will now advance to the Regional Competition, which is slated for Arlington, VA in June.

“I was really just happy that I played well,” remarked Scott about her performance. “I really wasn’t concerned if I won or not, I just wanted to play well. But it was nice to win the competition.”

Scott, who is a Liberty High School graduate, also serves as organist at the First United Methodist Church in Clarksburg.

The purpose of the AGO is to promote the organ in its historic and evolving roles, to encourage excellence in the performance of organ and choral music, and to provide a forum for mutual support, inspiration, education, and certification of Guild members.
