Wesleyan’s Robert (Bob) Skinner Selected as “West Virginia Admission Counselor of the Year”
released: 05/06/03

Robert (Bob) Skinner, Director of Admission and Financial Planning at West Virginia Wesleyan College, was recently selected as the “West Virginia Admission Counselor the Year” by the Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling.

Skinner received the award during the Association’s annual conference meeting on April 28, in Richmond, Virginia.

The Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling is the professional organization for admission and guidance counselor professionals.

The Association initiated a new awards program this year, recognizing one admission counselor and one guidance counselor from each state in their region of Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The award is presented to a nominee for their commitment and professionalism with high school students and their parents and recognizes those who have made significant contributions to the students he/she serves.

Skinner is geographically responsible for Barbour, Lewis, Randolph, and Tucker Counties.

“I am truly honored to be the first recipient of the Potomac and Chesapeake
Admission Counseling Association's West Virginia Admission Counselor of the
Year Award,” remarked Skinner. “It is both personally satisfying and humbling to be recognized in this way by my peers in the profession. I have been very fortunate to
work with many outstanding people at Wesleyan and it is great to be recognized for doing something I love so much -- working with kids and their parents in the college selection process.”

In recognition of the award, Skinner was given a one-year complimentary membership in Potomac and Chesapeake Association for College Admission Counseling.

Skinner is a 1975 graduate of Wesleyan with a B.S. in Business Administration and he earned a M.A. in Education Administration from West Virginia University in 1986.

He was the Director of Admission at Wesleyan from 1991-2000, and was the Associate Director of Financial Aid at Wesleyan from 1998-2000. He has served in his current role since September 1, 2000.

He has also served as Associate Dean of Students for three years and as the Director of Student Activities and Campus Center for seven years. He is currently a member of the President’s Cabinet at Wesleyan.
