| Steinbeck Authority
to Lead Discussion at Wesleyan released: 11/19/02 |
In
conjunction with the 100th anniversary of author John Steinbeck's birth,
the WV Humanities Council is sponsoring an evening discussion with Professor
Robert DeMott of Ohio University. The discussion will be held in Nellie
Wilson Lounge on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College on Thursday,
November 21, at 7:00 p.m. Wesleyan English professor Dr. Eric Waggoner will
moderate the discussion. In addition to several books on Steinbeck (and American literature of the early 20th century generally), DeMott is the editor of the Library of America's three Steinbeck editions, the Viking/Penguin 20th Century Classics editions of The Grapes of Wrath and To a God Unknown, and editor of Working Days: The Journals of The Grapes of Wrath, 1938-1941. The Steinbeck Centennial has occasioned a number of events over the past year, with a view to encourage new interest in an often-underrated American writer. Dr. DeMott's evening talk on November 21 will be preceded by a viewing of John Ford's The Grapes of Wrath in Hyma Auditorium, at 3:30 p.m. Both the discussion and the film are free and open to the general public. |
