| The Clothesline
Project to be Held at West Virginia Wesleyan College released: 4/02/04 |
| The month
of April is being recognized on the West Virginia Wesleyan College campus
as Sexual Assault Awareness month. The Wesleyan community will honor the
Sexual Assault Awareness campaign on Wednesday, April 7 with the Clothesline
Project and a candlelight vigil. The Clothesline Project is a display of T-shirts made by victims of violence (sexual assault, incest, or physical abuse). The T-shirts visually tell personal stories of abuse. The intention of the Clothesline Project is to promote awareness and education about the reality of violence experienced by women, men, and children. The display will be held in the first floor of the Benedum Campus Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The day will proceed with a candlelight vigil that will be held on the steps of Wesley Chapel at 6:30 p.m. The candlelight vigil is a way to demonstrate heartfelt support for survivors and a willingness to promote prevention and education. Charlotte Jackson from the Women's Aid in Crisis will speak and Angela Gay Kinkead, Dean of the Chapel, will lead the participants in prayer. Any community members interested in designing a shirt for the Clothesline Project or submitting poetry should contact Mike Kuba at kuba_m@wvwc.edu or Charlotte Jackson at 473-0106. |
