Nathan Gunn to Perform Feb. 21
released: 2/17/04

Nathan Gunn, one of America's most exciting young baritones, will perform in concert as part of West Virginia Wesleyan College's Arts Alive! Series at Wesley Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m.

Given the nickname, Top Gunn, Nathan will excite audiences with his unique robust baritone voice. Gunn's recital entitled America Through My Eyes, is his way of dramatizing the American experience and his vision of America. His themes depict the different stages of a man's life in America. The recital encompasses songs of childhood, home, love, fatherhood, war, peace, nostalgia, and old age. There are titles such as All of You, Holding Each Other, and Poor Wayfarin' Stranger.

The performance is a family affair for Nathan, with his wife Julie accompanying him on the piano.

Gunn is the winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Competition in 1994, a 1997 Tucker Foundation Career Grant, the 1996 Marian Anderson Award, the Pope Foundation Music Award, the Kate Neil Kinley Award, the 1993 Collegiate MacAllister Award, and the St. Louis Symphony Young Artist Competition in 1992. He is currently a member of the Advisory Boards of both the Lotte Lehmann Foundation and the University of Illinois. This past summer, Nathan was seen in the title role of Thomas in Hamlet at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis and as Marcello in a concert version of La Bohème at the Hollywood Bowl.

This program is presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval by the West Virginia Commission on the Arts. Admission to the performance is free and the public is welcome to attend. To learn more about West Virginia Wesleyan College, please visit www.wvwc.edu.
