of the tango style. Inspired by the Argentine orquesta tipica -- the classic
tango orchestra of violins, bandoneons, bass and piano--QuinTango brings
its own interpretations to this evocative music, universally synonymous
with the eternal dance of man and woman. The Wesleyan dancers will perform
one number with the group as well. The five-person ensemble included Joan Singer on the violin, Eva Cappelletti on the violin, Jorge Luis Espinoza on the cello, Libby Blatt on the bass, and Jeffery Watson on the piano. QuinTango's recent performances include appearances at the White House, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Embassy of Argentina, the Martin Luther King Library, Prince George's Community College, the Mexican Cultural Institute, The Phillips Collection, The Corcoran Museum, The George Meany Center, U.S. Department of State, the Smithsonian, and local cable television, as well as Borders Books and Music. The magic of QuinTango's anecdote-laced performances has turned local music-lovers into tango lovers, and tango lovers into QuinTango lovers. When QuinTango takes the stage, the lights dim...the pulse quickens...the tango begins. General Admission for the public is $5. This program is presented with financial assistance from the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval by the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
