Concert Chorale and Concentus Vocum To Give Home Concert
released: 03/17/04
The West Virginia Wesleyan Concert Chorale and Concentus will perform their Spring Concert Sunday, March 21 at 3 p.m. in Wesley Chapel.

The Concert Chorale is fresh off their stunning performances in the Clay Center at Charleston on March 5 and 6. They will be doing two movements of the Brahm’s Requiem, which they performed with the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra at the Clay Center, and will be singing four works of “celebration” -- The Promise of Living by Aaron Copland, Live in Love by Dorothy Papadakas, Make Our Garden Grow by Leonard Bernstein, and Now is the Hour by Srul Irving Glick. Junior Joshua Stubbs will be featured as baritone soloist and Melody Meadows, associate professor of music, will accompany on the organ.

Concentus Vocum will sing arrangements of Irish folksongs and poetry of the Scottish poet Robert Burns.

The concert will end with a set of spirituals and gospel songs in which the Concert Chorale will be joined by guest artist and alumnus, Valerie Wilson ‘92. The set will include the well-known Rise Shine, for the Light is Coming; Give me that Old Time Religion; Precious Lord; and Soon I will be done with the Trouble of the World.

The Concert Chorale and the Concentus Vocum are under the direction of Dr. Larry Parsons, professor of music and interim Dean of the College. “We are very much looking forward to sharing our music with the college and Buckhannon communities,” remarked Dr. Parsons. “We had to postpone our spring tour so this is our first major concert of the year. We are also very grateful to Valerie Wilson for her willingness to share her outstanding talent with us.”

Admission is free to the concert and the public is encouraged to attend.
