Concentus
Vocum and the Wesleyan Singers will perform in concert on Tuesday, April
6 at 7:30 p.m. in West Virginia Wesleyan’s Wesley Chapel.
The program will feature traditional Irish literature such as “Danny
Boy,” “So, We’ll Go No More A Roving,” I Know
Where I’m Goin,” “The Coulin,” The Cat’s
Ramble to the Child’s Saucer,” along with several other Irish
pieces. Michael McGlynn, founder and musical director of the Irish choral
group Annuna, arranged several of the pieces. McGlynn and his group were
the singers with the original “Riverdance” production.
The music of this concert reflects the Scottish-Irish folksong tradition
of the
West Virginia and Appalachian mountains. The music speaks to the joys
and sorrows of daily living and moves our spirits and hearts.
The Concentus Vocum is a select chamber vocal ensemble comprised of members
of the Concert Chorale. Literature includes chamber music from the Baroque,
Classical, and Modern eras, as well as genres such as Jazz and Musical
Theatre. The Concentus Vocum is conducted by Dr. Larry Parsons, music
professor and chorale director, and is accompanied by Jane Zopff on the
harp. The Wesleyan singers are a women's choir open to all members of
the College. They are conducted by music director Sarah Carr and accompanied
by senior Jessica Scott.
The concert will be presented free to the public. All are cordially invited
to attend.
