Virginia Wesleyan College is proud to present DanceWorks VII from Thursday,
April 22 to Sunday, April 24. The show will be performed each evening at
8 p.m. in Atkinson Auditorium. DanceWorks has become an anticipated performance,
which marks the end of each semester at Wesleyan. The concert allows students
studying dance to exhibit the skills they have learned during the past academic
term. All dance students are given the opportunity to perform in DanceWorks, which helps create the diversity typical of this production. “It is an incredibly rich offering of dance, consisting of styles such as: ballet, jazz, tap, modern, African Tribal and Tango,” said Bess Park Reynolds, Associate Professor of Theatre Arts and Director of Musical Theatre and Dance. Jason Jackson, a senior musical theatre major, will be debuting his first advanced choreography project as part of DanceWorks VII. “I can’t describe the intensity of emotions that I am feeling about the upcoming production and getting to watch something I have created on stage,” said Jackson. “To me DanceWorks is more a celebration of what we have accomplished than anything else.” In addition to the many dance class productions, Mark Taylor, an invited guest choreographer, created a new piece for DanceWorks. The Augusta Youth Ballet will perform this number for the first time as part of this semester’s concert. “I am very eager for this year’s presentation of DanceWorks,” said Park Reynolds. “The students have always given beautiful performances but I feel certain that this year’s production is going to serve as the inauguration of a show becoming tradition based on prestige. Every element of Danceworks VII, from the music to the movements, will be simply breathtaking.” Tickets will be sold at the door. Admission will be $2 donation per person.
